Coursework: Preliminary exercise 2024

Q1) The song I will be using is the famous song "Let It Happen" by Tame Impala.

Q2)Music video 1:  On “Breathe Deeper,” Kevin considers stressful and negative situations, how deep breathing can help with staying calm and making it through the situation. It is very typical of the indie genre and is a very calming music video

Tame impala made this music video using animations specifically a CGI dragonfly that flies across the scene as we cut to many animated shot of the dragonfly moving across terrain. Tracking shots of the dragonfly moving across the terrain. The editing adds this sort of affect to the video making it seem nauseous and confusing to decipher.

Music video 2: Higher Power" is a song by British rock band Cold play. In the music video we can see the insane use of VFX and powerful editing as we can see the main actor in casual clothing, no makeup and no props. However we see the setting as we get a sideways shot following of him moving across this new planet. The VFX here is astounding as we see all kinds of sci fi robots and settings. This is what the song and the music video wants to convey to the audience and they do a fantastic job of it. I see some reverse editing where the character moves back and forth as they lip sync through the sci fi city.

Music video 3: The music video for "Life Goes On" incredibly directed by the artist themselves at a time where Covid-19 didn't allow too many human interactions .He uses a variety of short close ups of his eye as it transitions into a infinite amount of clones as the camera moves back from the main focus. He uses a green screen for the background which makes it easier for him to clone himself multiple times. Outfit is the same. No makeup used. Lighting was at some times low key but most of the time high key to highlight his lip syncing and perfoming.

Q3) I plan on shooting the music video over Friday and the weekend should give me enough time to edit and shoot the scenes for the full music video
