Lighting

The image uses Top lighting as the girl is shrouded in darkness from the legs to the neck and her face is shone with lighting we can see this as shes looking up at the light.

This is a good example of low key lighting and the contrast between the shadows and the lighting highlighting her cheek bones and face and especially her lipstick

It creates this mysterious vibe and makes us wonder wyt is she looking up at the light it also highlights her hands wrapped around her neck which could suggest shes scared or shocked

A clear example of high key lighting that shows not much shadows and encapsulates the character in heavy lighting that highlights his outfit and accessories such as the crown and the leather outfit

The use of under lighting highlights his entire outfit as top lighting comes from the top and back            lighting only insinuates silhouettes

The effect that it creates is that this character is a key figure in that story judging from the crown              we can say that he is of high importance or high class. The expensive outfit also suggests that.

This still image clearly shows that it is low key lighting only capturing his face in the light and bathing his outfit in darkness there's also a high contrast in light and shadows

This is top lighting as it only highlights his face and leaves his body in darkness which shows it cant be under or back lighting.

This can maybe show hes a sinister character and the lighting showing off his gun and badge may seem like he is of high authority and power.

This is high key lighting as theres no difference in the lighting and shadows its very clear and the lighting is not distinctive its very powerful.

This still image uses side lighting so lighting that comes from the side to almost highlight her face and facial features it also creates a shadow in the back

This effect makes it seem like the girl is in trouble and needs help judging from the terrified face and hands up in surrender fashion

This is low key lighting as the there s a big contrast in shadows and lighting

This director uses back lighting to highlight the four characters silhouettes and to enlarge them to make them look more powerful/scary.

This makes the audience wonder what are they doing and what could they possibly do to the man on the floor

This scene is very low key lighting the massive darkness enshrouding the stair case suggest that

Top/side lighting is used it highlights the terrifying iconic mask which excites the audience it also highlights the knife which is a classic convention of the slasher genre.

This makes us only look at Micheal Myers as this looming powerful individual whos about commit a murder judging from the knife glinting due to the lighting.

CONVENTIONS OF A FILM NOIR MOVIE:

  • Black and white (typical of the time)
  • Dark, low-key, chiaroscuro lighting.
  • Harsh shadows.
  • High-contrast mise en scene.
  • Ominous cinematography influenced by German Expressionism.

THE BIG SLEEP:

This scene is a classic film noir scene where in the library a man flirts and talks to the librarian it primarily uses lighting to highlight their facial expressions throughout the scene to show the change in interest each have for each other a classic example of top lighting and high key lighting.
